Public Transport
The centre of Agra is a motor-vehicle-free zone in order to reduce pollution and minimise the damage to historic buildings from carbon-based emissions; hence the only way to get around, aside from walking, is to take a rickshaw (traditional man-powered vehicle). Getting around on foot is perfectly feasible however, since the city centre is quite compact and easy to negotiate.

For transportation to neighbouring cities, visitors can choose between the bus and the train; neither however, is especially comfortable or reliable. A regular rail connection is maintained between Agra and Delhi, with the 2nd class air-conditioned cars offering the best option for those wanting any degree of comfort.

Travel Tips
India is a large country with the mighty Himalayas sweeping the entire north while at the south lies the Indian ocean. The country is bordered by Pakistan in the north-west, China, Nepal and Bhutan towards the north and Burma and Bangladesh towards the east. The approximate area covered by the Indian subcontinent is a massive 3,287,000 sq. km., making it the seventh largest country in the world.

Climatic conditions along various regions in the country differ a great deal, however, the country witnesses three basic seasons, summers, winters and monsoon. Summer season generally lasts from March till June while the monsoon season kicks off around mid June and lasts till mid September. Winter season starts during mid October and continues till the end of February.

Passport & Visa
Each traveller to India must possess a valid passport at the time of arrival that would remain valid for a period of six months after the completion of the trip to India. All foreign nationals also require a visa to travel to India.

Airports in India do not permit passengers to be met by outsiders inside secured passenger areas. While on high security, outsiders are sometimes not even allowed to enter the building. The passengers are required to fill a currency declaration form on arrival in India.

Airport departure taxes are levied at different levels, which may or may not be included in the cost of your ticket. The charges for neighbouring countries are currently Rs. 150 while those for international travel are Rs. 500, which are subject to change anytime without notice. At certain points in the airport, the travellers may be required to personally identify their belongings.

Electricity
The electricity is 220 volts AC. The size of sockets vary, therefore, it is advised to carry along a universal adapter.

Baggage Regulations
The baggage limits are followed strictly, both on international as well as domestic flights. The domestic airlines have more restrictive limits of baggage as compared to the international carriers. As of now, the baggage limit on domestic flights is 30 kgs for those traveling in economy class and 40 kgs for those in business class. In case of small planes flying to neighbouring countries, the baggage limit may vary between 15 to 20 kgs.

The baggage which exceeds the limit may be subject to excess freight charges while these may also be refused, depending on the policies of the airlines company. The checked baggage should have your personal information including the address and phone number of your permanent residence. It is advised that you do not pack valuables such as jewellery or cameras in the baggage.

Tipping
Tipping is not essential in India and there are no fixed rates for the same. Therefore, you may or may not tip a person. If at all you want to tip and are not sure about the amount, it is worthwhile to ask yourself a question as to how much the person in question did to make your travel comfortable.

Tourist Guides
Trained tourist guides are available at all the major monuments who charge you a fixed pre-decided amount. There are English speaking guides as well as those who are fluent in other languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, German and Japanese. Unauthorised guides are not allowed inside these places, therefore, it is advisable that the tourists ask for a certificate from the guide, which is normally issued by the tourist department of India.

Antiques
Paintings, sculptures and other rare works of art which have been in existence for more that 100 years are not allowed to be exported out of the country. Manuscripts such as scientific and historical documents which have been in existence for over 75 years are not allowed to be exported out of the country.

Currency
The Indian rupee is the official currency of India. One rupee is divided into 100 paise. While there are no limits of currency that a traveller can bring into the country, travellers with more than US $5000 in cash or US $10,000 as traveler's cheque are required to make a declaration of the currency. Credit and debit cards are accepted at all the major restaurants, shopping complexes etc. It is advised that the travellers change money only at banks and hotels authorised to do so and keep the receipt safely for future use.
